This combined program provides students with an opportunity to undertake concurrent study in order to complete two awards simultaneously. In this program, students will apply fundamental studies in engineering design, computer aided engineering, the dynamics of mechanical systems, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and engineering materials to engineering problems. Students gain the skills to improve the performance, safety and energy efficiency of machines, systems and structures that support industry and society. The program encourages the development of computer aided engineering skills and an understanding of automation as required by many industries. Students apply these skills to analyse and design solutions for a range of engineering problems in diverse fields such as mining, materials handling, renewable energy and aeronautics. The combination with Science recognises the physical foundations of Mechanical Engineering. It gives students a much deeper understanding of the physical principles at the core of all engineering.
This 5 year program comprises of 400 units, of which a maximum of 290 units are core courses, a maximum of 80 units are compulsory courses from your chosen major, a maximum of 90 units are directed courses, and a maximum of 10 units are elective pathway courses. Students will have the opportunity to undertake an industrially related project in their final year in the engineering degree and must also complete 12 weeks of industrial experience throughout the program. In the Bachelor of Engineering component of this combined degree, a graded honours classification is awarded to students on the basis of superior performance attained throughout the program. In the Bachelor of Science component, a 'with distinction' classification is awarded to students on the basis of superior performance attained throughout the program.

Standard entry requirements
- Year 12 or equivalent. Alternative entry pathways may include approved TAFE studies, preparatory programs such as Newstep, Open Foundation or Tertiary Preparation Certificate. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics (Band 5 or extension 1) or equivalent
- Study of one science-related subject would also be an advantage (physics preferred). Applicants who have achieved less than Mathematics Band 5 or have not completed a science-related subject may be admitted to the program but may need additional study and/or assistance to successfully complete the requirements of the program.
This degree program is accredited by Engineers Australia and other affiliated international organisations.
Credit transfer agreements with TAFE NSW and other education providers are under continuous negotiation. A Bachelor of Science (Honours) is also available to meritorious students, as an extra year of full-time or equivalent part-time study.
