Motor vehicle and caravan salespeople may perform the following tasks:
- Determine customer needs and advise on suitable vehicle models and accessory options
- Demonstrate to customers the various features of a vehicle and take customers for test-drives, quote or negotiate prices, and advise on warranties, delivery dates and after-sales service
- Take sales orders and prepare contracts of sale
- Receive payments and process ownership transfer documents
- Offer and negotiate trade-in prices for vehicles
- Sell attachments and accessories for vehicles
- Arrange customer finance for vehicle purchases
- Assist with pre-delivery checks of vehicle operations
- Provide evaluations on vehicles.
Working conditions for a Motor Vehicle and Caravan Salesperson
Motor vehicle and caravan salespeople work at both outdoor and indoor sales yards or may visit customers. Salespeople generally start as cadets, or junior salespeople, performing duties such as registering vehicles. Salespeople may be required to work some evenings and weekends. They are usually employed on a commission basis, with their income depending upon the amount of sales they make.
