This qualification is part of the Aviation Training Package. It reflects the roles of individuals delivering training and assessment services usually within aviation Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) or flight training organisations and is suitable preparation for those engaged in the delivery of training and assessment of competence in an aviation workplace context, as a component of a structured vocational education and training program. Flight instruction duties include applying technical and non-technical aviation and vocational skills and knowledge to a wide range of learners, operating conditions and aviation environments. Individuals working at this level apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts within broad but established parameters. Use for Defence Aviation is to be in accordance with relevant Defence Orders, Instructions, Publications and Regulations.

Entry Requirements:

Certificate IV in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Helicopter Licence) or equivalent. Commercial or military pilot entrants to this qualification should check requirements with CASA or Defence Aviation for certification and/or flight hour requirements or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence.

16 units: 10 core; 6 elective

Electives: Plan and conduct multi-crew cooperation training; Facilitate training in a synthetic environment; Conduct training for the issue of an endorsement; Operate a simulator; Implement aviation risk management processes; Participate in a quality audit; plus more.

This qualification forms some of the requirements for certification as a flight instructor by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as directed by Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 61 Flight crew licensing. People seeking certification should check these requirements with CASA.
