Based in the capital of Australia's Northern Territory, at the centre of the `Top End' and Australia's gateway to Indonesia and Southeast Asia, this highly unique postgraduate program focuses on a geographic region that is arguably the most prone to, and affected by various types of disasters. The program provides a comprehensive package that enhances the capacity of students to use that knowledge appropriately, collaboratively and productively in this vulnerable region and other parts of the world. It creates a solid foundation that enables students to translate academic developments into practical responses and translates professional experience into the academic sphere of this rapidly evolving sector. This is an in-depth and comprehensive course encompassing uniqueness by way of; (i) focus on Asia-Pacific Region; (ii) informed by practice and research; and (iii) multi-sectoral approach.

Entry Requirements:

Successful completion of a recognised Bachelor degree or equivalent, or a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or equivalent in a relevant field. Consideration will be given to non-graduates who have advanced level VET qualifications such as a Diploma or above and at least five years appropriate professional experience.

Structure:

The course provides an introduction to core and specialist knowledge in emergency and disaster management in the Asia-Pacific region. Students may choose from a range of specialist elective subjects in health, engineering, environment, management, and Indigenous knowledges.

Graduates may continue on a pathway to a Graduate Diploma in Emergency and Disaster Management or a Master of Emergency and Disaster Management.

Charles Darwin University is the major tertiary education and vocational education and training institution in the Northern Territory.

Originally established as a tertiary institution in 1974, it became the Northern Territory University in 1989 and Charles Darwin University in 2003.

The main University campus is located at Casuarina in Darwin with campuses at Alice Springs, Katherine and Palmerston. VET courses are also offered at Jabiru, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek and Yulara Centres as well as at various remote community centres.

The University provides multi-sector education with Senior Secondary, VET, Higher Education and Research facilities.

CDU also deliver a number of courses through the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (ACIKE), which is a joint initiative between Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE). The three main sites for delivery will be at the main ACIKE Hub CDU Casuarina campus and at the BIITE campuses at Batchelor and the Alice Springs Desert Peoples' Centre.
