The Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology is designed to extend and supplement the relevant knowledge of accredited exercise physiologists, and exercise science and sport science / human movement graduates. A thorough knowledge of health sciences is integrated with the research knowledge and skills to complete a research thesis.

The program is designed to allow students to move sequentially through the first year of coursework (the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Exercise Physiology) to the Masters research component. Participation in student clinics, consultations or research after hours, on weekends and during the lecture breaks, may be required. The thesis component of the degree may be undertaken off-campus after consultation with the Program Coordinator and supervisor.

Standard entry requirements

Normal entry: completion of the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Exercise Physiology course-work component, or equivalent


Graduates are eligible to become fully accredited exercise physiologists with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). This is the highest level of accreditation available in Australia for Exercise Physiologists. ESSA has full membership with the Health Professions Council of Australia and is an active member of nation-wide organisations such as the National Allied Health Case-Mix Committee (NAHCC) and the National Fitness Accreditation Council (AFAC). ESSA also has an affiliation with Sports Medicine Australia (SMA). International professional associations include the International Congress of Sport and Physical Education (ICSPE), the American Society of Exercise Physiologists, Ontario Kinesiology Association, Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology and British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.
