This program prepares students for employment as a social worker in a range of settings (i.e. local government, state and federal governments, not for profit and community based organisations and private organisations). This qualification is recognised by the Australian Association of Social Workers. Graduates have a core body of knowledge, skills, values and methods in social work and social planning in preparation for a range of career opportunities and in their role as global citizens. This includes the development of a sound understanding of multiple cultural and institutional contexts and challenges of practice, and the values and skills for effective relations between people, organisations and professions in the human services.
Structure
The degree comprises core (compulsory) topics in social work, social planning, sociology, politics and geography. The third and fourth years of the degree incorporate field placements in which students work as trainees in various settings. The degree entails two 500 hour social work professional experience placements which take place under the supervision of professionally qualified university and agency staff. A current driver's licence may be required for some placements.

Recognition
Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. Indigenous graduates and students can join a network of Aboriginal social workers through Indigenous Allied Health Australia, which centres on Aboriginal professional practice.
