This degree aims to provide students with the proficiency to use cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories in the systematic development of solutions to complex computer science problems.

Structure

Students complete core (compulsory) topics and option topics chosen from a range of option topics available including a masters thesis or a masters project. These topics aim to provide students strengthened knowledge in both the theoretical and the practical aspects of computational intelligence.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in computer science, information technology, ICT-based engineering or a closely related discipline or hold the Graduate Diploma in Computer Science.Applicants who hold a Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in behavioural science or psychology, which includes a major in artificial intelligence or computer science, are also eligible to apply.Knowledge of second year information technology is assumed.

Recognition

Graduates will be eligible for professional level membership with the Australian Computer Society. Courses accredited at this level by the Australian Computer Society are recognised internationally under the Seoul Accord.

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
