This double degree provides specialist knowledge and a broad range of nursing skills in communication, research, clinical reasoning, client care and judgement, making students highly employable in any practice setting, especially in rural and remote areas where being multi-skilled can save lives. Students will have plenty of opportunity for clinical experience in diverse settings throughout Victoria. Students will graduate with the ability to provide continuous care to mothers and babies from before to after birth. Students will also be able to provide nursing care in any situation, including emergencies.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; Prerequisites: Units 1 and 2: satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of General Mathematics or Maths: Mathematical Methods or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics plus Units 3 and 4; a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English.

Structure:

Clinical nursing and midwifery experience will be undertaken in years 1-4. The clinical component of this course requires students to be rostered to work a mix of day, evening, weekend and night shifts. Travel to metropolitan and rural off-campus locations for clinical practicals will be required.

All applicants must satisfy the equivalence of the VCE subject prerequisites. University: To be considered on the basis of tertiary study alone, applicants who have completed VCE or equivalent will be required to complete the equivalent of one year (48 credit points) of a recognised university degree and will require an average result of at least 70% (including failed units). For applicants who have completed less than the equivalent of one year of study, both the VCE Year 12 (or equivalent) results and the units completed will be considered. TAFE/VET: Graded AQF Diplomas will be considered for entry. To be considered, applicants will normally require at least a minimum 70% average. Applicants with a Diploma of Nursing are eligible to apply. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements. These are minimum requirements, admissions to this course are competitive and applicants may need to meet a higher requirement to be offered a place.

Students undertaking a Faculty Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences course with clinical or fieldwork placements must demonstrate compliance with police, working with children checks and immunisation requirements.
