The Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership is intended for registered/accredited teachers across Australia, or student otherwise who hold an education qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Applicants are aiming to enhance their skillset, knowledge and leadership abilities in the specific area of educational leadership. Applying key leadership frameworks and with consideration for effective leadership values, students will explore learning, teaching and curriculum through the lens of educational leadership for the purpose of school and system improvement. Through this course, students will gain key skills in the fundamentals of management, material and human resourcing, planning, budgeting and project coordination, and will graduate as competent school leaders and managers, understanding the connection between leadership and improved student engagement and outcomes, and school community empowerment. With a close nexus between research and practice, students are provided the most contemporary knowledge and skills to allow them to develop their career as school leaders and specialist educators. The course places emphasis on students being able to understand how research and theory influence teaching practice and on how to reflect on these learnings to further develop educational approaches to stay at the forefront of the ever-evolving field of education. Covering a breadth of subject matter, students will gain an understanding of how learning, teaching and curriculum intersect and articulate strategic initiatives to strengthen education systems. This fully online course is delivered across a series of accelerated units and can be completed in one six month period of focused study. This course articulates into EDM102 Master of Education with opportunity to complete the Masters course with an additional 6 months of study (12 credit points).

Standard entry requirements

Current registration as a teacher at proficient level or higher with an Australian regulatory authority/registration authority (e.g. TQI, NESA) OR A three-year undergraduate degree in Education or relevant field as approved by the University of Canberra, and at least three years' FTE professional experience in education OR Graduate/Post-Graduate education qualifications as approved by the University of Canberra.
