Melbourne International Research Scholarship (MIRS)

The Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) are awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne. MIRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award. Each year the University offers about 200 new Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRSs), of which about 150 are normally awarded to international students as MIRSs.

Eligibility

Applicants from all overseas countries (except New Zealand) who have received an unconditional offer of a place will be considered. Applicants are ineligible for consideration if they are already in receipt of a scholarship that provides a living and relocation allowance, or have already completed a degree at an equivalent level to the course for which they are seeking a scholarship.

Amount $26,916

The scholarships provide: a stipend of $26,916 per year (2017 rate); a thesis allowance of up to $420 for master studies and $840 for PhD studies; and a relocation grant of up to $2,000 for students moving from interstate, or up to $3,000 for students moving from overseas; plus paid sick, maternity and parenting leave. Tenure is the standard duration of the course, less any time already enrolled (doctoral candidates may be granted an extension of up to 6 months).
