William T Southcott Scholarship

The William T. Southcott Scholarship has been established as a result of a bequest from Mr William T. Southcott. The scholarship will be offered to outstanding students to undertake a PhD in the field of practical engineering at the University of South Australia. The scholarship is a prestigious award, and the recipient should have an outstanding academic record as well as leadership potential and personal attributes suitable for the award.
Eligibility
Applicants must: be Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia or international students. Applicants must meet the entry criteria for the award of a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of South Australia. In addition, applicants require an outstanding academic record; good communication skills and leadership potential. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of a short essay outlining their vision for the proposed research and its potential benefits to industry.

Amount | $36,000 The annual scholarship of $36‚000 per annum (2025 rate) tax-free will be awarded to a student for a maximum of 3 years. It is expected that recipients will complete their PhD program in three years; however, the scholarship may be extended beyond the tenure of three years, up to a maximum of 3.5 years, should the recipient experience delays, which are beyond their control. Extensions are not automatically granted – the recipient may apply to the University for an extension. |
