This qualification is part of the Health Training Package. It reflects the role of workers who undertake a range of tasks under direct supervision to support the provision of primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities. Such work will be performed as part of a health clinic, centre or service. It is suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways and is appropriate for delivery within VET in Schools programs.

10 units: 7 core; 3 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Work with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients and communities; Support clients to obtain access to health services; Provide basic health information to clients; Perform work role in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health care context; Provide first aid; Comply with infection control policies and procedures; Participate in workplace health and safety. Electives: Provide information on smoking and smoking cessation; Provide first aid in remote situations; Undertake basic health assessments; plus more.

Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the chance to study a wide range of courses designed to help them gain the skills and qualifications to find work and to help with the development of their communities.

The Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (ACIKE) is a joint initiative between Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE). Both organisations share a commitment to Indigenous student outcomes and currently occupy unique positions in the Australian tertiary education sector, having a critical focus on regional, remote and Indigenous education in some of the most challenging environments in the country. ACIKE is the only higher education delivery portal for BIITE. Both organisations provide staff for four schools within the ACIKE structure.
