This short course provides a foundation in human behaviour, approaches to counselling, interpersonal skills, as well as a focus on the importance of the person of the practitioner. With only four subjects, the certificate has been developed on a pedagogy that values experiential learning and face-to-face interaction, with an emphasis on understanding the human person of both the client and the counsellor.Successful engagement in counselling study requires a level of personal maturity and self-awareness. Consequently, entry into the Undergraduate Certificate in Counselling is subject not only to academic requirements, but also personal suitability as assessed through an interview, a personal statement and referee reports.

Standard entry requirements
- Year 12 or equivalent
- High Achievement (HA - QCAA) in English assumed
- Portfolio that includes Year 12 reports, personal statement and reflection
- Interview. Applicants for whom English is not their first language must also satisfy English language requirements: documentary evidence of secondary schooling, or tertiary studies of at least one year, conducted in the English language, or an overall score of 6.5 with minimum scores of 6.0 in all subtests, in an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test which is no more than 2 years old at the time of commencement at CHC. Personal suitability for counselling is assessed through an interview, a personal statement and two personal referees reports.
