This short course provides a solid foundation in areas of applied social theories, the psychology of human behaviour, contemporary human services, and social psychology. With only four subjects, the certificate has been developed around hands-on pedagogy and proximity to the human services industry, offering a compact employment pathway or upskilling for those already employed. The unit SO116 Introduction to Human Services affords students the chance to go on two organisational site visits and thereby offers an excellent opportunity to explore vocational ‘fit’ within different human services fields. Industry-proximity offers proven opportunities for strategic networks with both peers and senior industry professionals and affords students a strong entry position to explore a vocation in Human Services.This course can be completed online in one semester full-time.

Standard entry requirements

  • Year 12 or equivalent
  • High Achievement (HA - QCAA) in English assumed
  • Portfolio that includes Year 12 reports, personal statement and reflection
  • Interview. Applicants for whom English is not their first language must also satisfy English language requirements: documentary evidence of secondary schooling, or tertiary studies of at least one year, conducted in the English language, or an overall score of 6.5 with minimum scores of 6.0 in all subtests, in an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test which is no more than 2 years old at the time of commencement at CHC. Personal suitability for counselling is assessed through an interview, a personal statement and two personal referees reports.
