Get introduced to the professional design world through Deakin's Bachelor of Design (Communication). Learn the tools, strategies and design thinking methodologies required to be an adaptive, multidisciplinary communications designer. From day one you'll learn to shape your ideas into smart and appealing concepts for users, customers and society as a whole, under the guidance of industry leaders and established designers. You'll learn how to interpret design briefs and develop specialised skills in web design and interactivity, as well as traditional skills in typography, branding and print design. You'll benefit from Deakin's networks and relationships within the design industry and have opportunities to include your work in exhibitions and showcases. Take your learning further and specialise in: creative coding; designing 3D environments; digital photography; IT; principles of animation; and user experience (UX). In this exciting course, you'll learn from industry leaders in state-of-the-art facilities, culminating in a collaborative industry project in your final year. You'll graduate ready to make a real impact in the rapidly-changing field of design.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL; a portfolio of work presented to a satisfactory standard.


A total of 24 credit points and includes 18 credit points of core units and 6 credit points of elective units.

Study Pathways:

The University aims to provide students with as much credit as possible for approved prior study or informal learning which exceeds the normal entrance requirements for the course and is within the constraints of the course regulations. Students are required to complete a minimum of one-third of the course at Deakin University, or four credit points, whichever is the greater. In the case of certificates, including graduate certificates, a minimum of two credit points within the course must be completed at Deakin.
