Structure

  • Students complete core (compulsory) and option topics in ether a coursework or coursework and research stream. Topics are chosen from a range of topics available
  • topic areas include but are not limited to aged care, critical care nursing, diabetes management, emergency nursing, mental health nursing and primary health care. These topics aim to develop skills and knowledge to influence and improve nursing practice, provide leadership and exert a positive influence on community health, advance nursing knowledge and practice research, demonstrate specialist nursing skills, and analyse and critique evidence-based practice.This master degree articulates with the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (SATAC code 2GC192) and the Graduate Diploma in Nursing (SATAC code 2GD133).

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in Nursing
  • Hold current Registered Nurse registration and have one year (Full-time equivalent) work experience as a Registered Nurse, within the last five years.Applicants must provide details of their registered nursing work experience in their SATAC application. Selection is based on academic merit.Applicants are advised that should they receive an offer for a place in this degree they will be required to enrol in topics in the degree by the enrolment deadline stated in the letter of offer from SATAC. If they do not enrol via the Flinders University Student System by the specified date, their offer of a place in the degree will be forfeit. Applicants who receive an offer for a place in this degree should also note that if they subsequently receive an offer to a higher preference, their superseded offer of a place in this degree will also be forfeit.

Recognition

Graduates will not be eligible for nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
