Certificate III in Bricklaying/Blocklaying

Holmesglen Institute

This qualification is part of the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. It is for apprentices in the bricklaying/blocklaying trade. Students will learn: how to lay bricks and blocks using different bonds; how to construct ornamental panels, feature walls, arches and columns; and laying brickwork/blockwork for domestic, commercial, industrial and public buildings. Students will also learn about brick/block types, brick/block accessories, glues, brick/block patterns and cement mortars.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. WorkCover regulations require that Learners must have completed an approved program in OHS General Construction Induction before carrying out construction work.

27 units: 21 core; 6 elective

Core: Handle and prepare bricklaying/blocklaying materials; Use bricklaying and block laying tools and equipment; Carry out masonry veneer construction; Carry out cavity brick construction; Construct masonry steps and stairs; Lay masonry walls and corners; Install flashings and damp proof course (DPC); Construct masonry arches; Construct curved wall; Install fire rated masonry construction; Carry out setting out; Follow OH&S policies and procedures; Work effectively in the General Construction industry; Plan and organise work; Conduct workplace communication; Carry out measurements and calculations; Read and interpret plans and specifications; Apply basic levelling procedures; Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding; Carry out basic demolition.
