We've carefully designed our Bachelor of Finance to give you core skills in corporate finance, investment valuation, economic theory and data analysis. You'll also have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of majors and minors including accounting, management and international business. Learn in a trading room equipped with Bloomberg Terminals, then use them to get a competitive edge by earning your Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certificate. Get industry-recognised qualifications. La Trobe University is affiliated with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute and our Bachelor of Finance covers Level I of their CFA Program examinations. You may be able to undertake a voluntary work placement with a variety of organisations, enabling you to gain real-world experience while you study.

Structure

Students must complete at least 360 credit points, at least 270 of which must be in subjects offered by La Trobe Business School. First year includes four business foundation subjects. These subjects, Business Foundations, Accounting and Finance for Business, Business Economics, and Business Analytics, will introduce students to key business disciplines and work-ready skills. Second and third year includes subjects in Sustainability and a capstone subject in Entrepreneurship, respectively. Students will also complete eight core subjects in finance over the degree. This flexible degree also allows students to take an additional eight-subject major, a couple of four-subject minors, or a wide range of elective subjects.

Standard entry requirements

VCE Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL. NB: Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee an offer of a place. Entry into all La Trobe courses is based on competitive selection and there may be limited places available.

Recognition

Depending on subject choice, students may be eligible to graduate with an accounting qualification accredited by CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ); please refer to the Handbook for further details. Graduates may apply for membership with Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA). Membership may require an application to the professional body and may have additional or ongoing requirements beyond the completion of the degree.
