Set close to the Yarra River and only a few kilometres from Melbourne's CBD, the heritage listed Fairfield campus of NMIT is now home to NMIT's Creative Arts Department that delivers Bachelor degree programs in Illustration, Music, Music Industry, and Writing and Publishing. There are regular exhibitions at the Building B Gallery Space, concerts at Yarra Edge Music Centre and plant sales at the Nursery.

Yarra House Student Accommodation opened at Fairfield in 2010. Also, accommodation assistance via the Preston Campus.
