Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) is a research-based specialist teacher intervention program that has been shown to improve children’s knowledge and confidence with mathematics. This field-based and six-day program provides teachers with expertise and leadership in mathematical learning.

Standard entry requirements

A minimum qualification of BEd degree or equivalent, with at least two years teaching experience, and you must be a highly effective mathematics teacher with potential for professional leadership.You should be familiar with, and have a working knowledge of, the Mathematics Assessment Interview (also known as the Mathematics Online Interview and the Early Years Numeracy Interview).You must have completed the Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) Early Years (Prep to Year 2) Specialist Teacher course, ORYour school must be implementing the EMU Early Years Program in 2020, have an EMU Mentor teacher to support you during the course, and you must agree to complete a series of online learning tasks to prepare for the EMU Middle Years Specialist Teacher course.
