This qualification reflects the roles of avionic or mechanical maintenance team leaders, maintenance planners, spares assessors, repairable item managers and technical authors in both the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) regulatory environments. Workers apply scientific and mathematical principles and techniques according to established procedures and operating variables. Workers may lead a team and be required to communicate, demonstrate, coordinate and supervise work methods, compliance and safety standards. This qualification applies to workplaces that operate under the airworthiness regulatory systems of DASA and CASA. Any regulatory/licensing requirements associated with any MEA units of competency must be met.

Standard entry requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who can perform scheduled inspections, fault diagnosis and repair, and modification of:airframes and airframe mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components or aircraft electrical, instrument and radio systems and system components. Evidence of these competencies is provided through one of the following:at least 5 years current aviation (mechanical or avionics) maintenance experienceMaintenance Engineer Licence (Avionics) issued by CASAMaintenance Engineer Licence (Mechanical) issued by CASACertificate IV in Aeroskills (Avionics)Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Mechanical).
