The Graduate Diploma in Music is designed for university graduates in any field who wish to undertake graduate-level study in music. A student may focus on either practical skills or academic study, or blend the two together. The course also acts as a pathway for graduates of non-music degrees to become eligible for master level courses.
Graduates of an undergraduate degree in any field wanting to study music at graduate level
100 point program over one year full time or two years part time.

Standard entry requirements
- Undergraduate degree with a weighted average mark of at least 65%
- Or minimum five years' professional experience relevant to the specialisation. Selection into specialisations: Composition - presentation of a composition folio
- Musicology - a piece of scholarly writing and research proposal
- Practical Music - audition.
Completion of the GDipMus leads to eligibility to apply for higher degrees offered at Master level by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
