Bachelor of Education - Early Childhood and Primary

This is a teacher education program that offers two career options for graduates. It is an initial-teacher education qualification that encompasses working with children from birth to age 12 in both Early Childhood settings and Primary Schools. This course meets the accreditation requirements for both Early Childhood Teacher and Primary School Teacher.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent; and have a minimum of three Band 5 HSC results including English, or bridging units or alternative pathways as approved by NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA); or admission through an articulation program; and satisfy the School of their suitability through satisfactory completion of the Personal Statement for Initial Teacher Education Course Entry.


192 credit points (equivalent to 32 standard units) which includes 135 days of embedded professional experience. A candidate must pass mandatory literacy and numeracy tests prior to attempting their final professional experience unit. Students admitted through an articulation program follow a modified program of study.

Students undertaking professional experience placements are required to undertake a Working with Children Check; Child Protection Awareness Training, approved Anaphylaxis Training course; and meet UNE School of Education and NSW Education Standards Authority requirements for professional experience.

College accommodation

UNE’s residential accommodation currently consists of eight colleges and a village of self-contained units. Accommodation ranges from the more traditional college with meals included and shared bathroom facilities, to the more independent, self-contained flats at Wright Village and UNE’s new Wright College , which provides modern studio apartments complete with your own kitchen and bathroom facilities.
