Engineering technological solutions to health and medical problems is a rapidly growing global field. Students gain fundamental knowledge in science and mathematics, engineering design paradigms and human biosciences, together with a technical specialisation in a chosen major in one of the two key domains: medical devices (micro and nano electro-mechanical sensing systems) or medical biomechanics (prostheses design).

Structure

  • The Bachelor of Medical Engineering (Honours) is a four year program, students are required to complete 320 units, which is comprised of: 130 units of core courses
  • 30 units of HUBS Directed courses
  • 150 units towards a major. Students can choose either:Medical Devices Major: 150 units of compulsory courses ORMedical Biomechanics Major: 140 units of compulsory courses and 10 units of directed courses
  • 10 units of elective courses.

Subjects

  • Medical Engineering
  • Medical Signal Analysis, Medical Devices, Medical Computing, Medical Bio-mechanics

Standard entry requirements

Year 12 or equivalent. Alternative entry pathways may include approved TAFE studies, preparatory programs such as Newstep, Open Foundation or Tertiary Preparation Certificate. Assumed knowledge: HSC Mathematics (Band 5 or above) or equivalent. One science-related subject would also be an advantage (Biology, Physics or Chemistry preferred). Applicants who have achieved less than Mathematics Band 5, or who have completed HSC Mathematics General 2 may be admitted to the program but may need to complete additional study to successfully complete the requirements of the program.

Recognition

This degree program will seek provisional accreditation by Engineers Australia in 2018.
