At VU, we have more than 42,000 students enrolled across a wide range of disciplines and course levels including diploma, bachelor, masters and PhD programs.

We are one of the most culturally diverse institutions in Victoria, with representation from over 100 nationalities and over 600 languages spoken across the university. We aim to be inclusive.

VU has been instrumental in the education of students in the west of Melbourne. In 2016, we celebrated 100 years since the founding of our predecessor institution, Footscray Technical School, and our 25th anniversary as a university.

We take great pride in our industry and community connections. Some of our partnerships include Western Bulldogs Football Club, Western Health, Malthouse Theatre and City West Water. We believe there is no greater victory than being confident and prepared for your career goals. Our partnerships will help you graduate job-ready.

We take great pride in our assets: a diverse staff and student population, close links with the region, flexibility, and openness to new ideas. In partnership with Maribyrnong City Council, we have a 10-year plan to establish Footscray as a university town to nurture, promote, and integrate the renaissance in art, education, sport and innovation taking place in the region.

Sport is a major focus and great strength for VU. We have the largest population enrolled in sport courses, the greatest number of sport-related industry partners, highest graduate employment outcomes in Australia, and the most graduates working in the sport industry.

VU has more than 55 years’ experience educating international students in Australia and more than 20 years’ experience delivering education in collaboration with partner institutions in Asia.

We work with education partners in China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and Myanmar to deliver courses to more than 9000 students. We also provide hundreds of our students with the opportunity to gain international perspectives through overseas short-term study and internships with partner institutions.

Notable VU graduates include Quest Serviced Apartments founder and chairman Paul Constantinou; former basketballer Andrew Gaze; former Western Bulldogs chief executive and Olympian Campbell Rose; Collingwood Football Club senior coach Nathan Buckley; Olympian Mike McKay; Victorian MP Kim Wells; golfing legend Peter Thompson; actor Pia Miranda; and Sunway Group founder Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah.

Don’t just take our word for it. Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016/17 ranked VU in the top two per cent of the world’s universities, and number 56 in the world’s top universities aged under 50 (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016/17). We also hold a prominent position in the QS World University Rankings (2016/17).
