Phoebe Woodward, Marketing Officer

Womindjika,

I’m a marketing officer for the Australian Apprenticeships and Traineeships Information Service (AATIS). My role includes creating marketing and social content for the AAPathways website and associated projects. I studied Business Marketing at RMIT University in Melbourne, while also completing additional undergraduate degrees in Advanced Marketing, Economics and Finance.

After completing my degree, I was on the hunt for a ‘big kid’ job. On Seek I found a position vacancy through Maxima Recruitment. The role was for an Indigenous Graduate Marketing Officer. As a proud Dja Wurrung woman, I decided to apply. The interview process involved four interviews: two with Maxima Recruitment and two with the AATIS team. After two weeks of waiting, I received a call from the AATIS team and was informed they had chosen me for the job. I was absolutely ecstatic.

My role as Marketing Officer is wonderful and fulfilling. I have been offered so many opportunities to grow and learn, not only professionally but also as a person. One of my favourite things about my role is travelling to film videos for ATTIS’ MyGain YouTube channel. In this part of my role, I get to meet incredible people and hear their Australian Apprenticeships stories. Another amazing part

about my job is the people I work with. I have made so many genuine friendships and it’s fantastic to see such a dynamic team inspiring and supporting each other.

My journey started with Mainfreight started in 2012, I started on the floor. It was a fantastic hands on approach to learning the basics of logistics. From there I moved into a project manager role and was given the opportunity to travel around the world to learn more about our business. I now manage my own warehouse with a team of 40 team members and don’t foresee career opportunities slowing down any time soon!

Mainfreight’s global reach is what first attracted me to join the business, but I never imagined my career would evolve has it has.

In seven years my career has taken me from my hometown of Townsville beginning in Customer Service and then Sales, down to Brisbane to join our Training and Development team. This, then lead me to, Auckland and Melbourne before returning to Townsville as Branch Manager.

At Mainfreight our culture is about learning from the ground up. Our philosophy is about having leaders who actually understand the nuts and bolts of the business and are passionate about our 100 year vision.
