Bachelor of Healthy Ageing

The course is multidisciplinary and aims at preparing students to work with older people and to consider and develop new opportunities within ageing societies across the globe. Students will have the opportunity to tailor their learning experience to a broad range of areas relevant to ageing studies, or developing enabling societies in which older people flourish. The course is available via online study only, with each topic completed over a 9-week time frame. This allows students to complete the course at a pace that meets their individual needs, and in a minimum of two years. Graduates may find employment in ageing/aged care services, as managers, health services and local council/government staff, consultants, policy analysts and service/program developers. In addition there are opportunities for the development and delivery of new products and services to our ageing community.

Structure

Core (compulsory) topics provide a foundation in understanding the diversity of ageing populations as well as health, psychological well-being, and enabling environments, physical activity and nutrition while developing skills in key academic areas such as communication, critical and creating thinking, and research methods. Students can select from a broad range of option topics, strengthening and developing their knowledge and skills in an area of interest or for professional development. Option topics are available in leisure/lifestyle, nutrition, disability, end of life, leadership, counselling, gender, physical activities and business. All topics are delivered via a nine-week study period, allowing for completion of the degree in a shortened time frame if desired.
