2022 Ratings: The top universities for postgraduate study

The 2022 edition of our Australian university ratings have landed! If you’re in the process of choosing a uni for postgraduate study, these ratings can help you get to know your options. No two universities are the same, so finding the right one for you needs careful consideration.

Finding the right university and course for you comes down to doing plenty of research. Types of postgraduate degrees include:

  • Graduate certificates (or postgraduate certificates)

  • Graduate diplomas (or postgraduate diplomas)

  • Masters degrees

  • Doctoral degrees

Our postgraduate ratings provide insights across a range of 8 indicators, grouped into two categories: The Student Experience and Graduate Outcomes.

A combination of resources provided by the Department of Education, Skills & Employment are used to create these ratings, as well as graduate and student experience surveys in Australia. The results show that despite the challenges of Covid-19, universities have continued to serve students at a high standard.

Five-star universities for postgraduate study

The ‘overall experience’ rating looks at the proportion of students who were satisfied with the overall quality of their educational experience. A five-star rating means the university has fallen in the top 20% of all universities for this rating.

Here are the Australian universities that received a five-star rating for overall experience in postgraduate study:

  • Bond University

  • Murdoch University

  • University of Newcastle

  • Charles Sturt University

  • Edith Cowan University

  • Southern Cross University

  • Griffith University

  • University of Southern Queensland

  • The University of Notre Dame Australia

  • University of New England

The tables below summarise each ranking type, along with the top university in each one. Note that these rankings are simply indicators that you can use to identify and shortlist the right universities to suit your own needs, preferences and circumstances. Courses and institutions differ in many ways — only you can decide which differences really matter to you.
